Advertising is Art Media Auction!

Annual Media Auction continues to grow!

AAF-Jacksonville presented its second annual Media Auction, “Advertising is Art” before a crowd of Art Walkers during a chilly evening on Wednesday, March 3, 2010.

An estimated 100 attendees enjoyed free-flowing refreshments, an endless array of hors d’oeuvres, a lively and comedic auctioneer and a lobby filled with this year’s local ADDY® Award-winning entries.

The evening boasted 16 fun, non media-related silent auction items and more than 50 media-related live auction items with values ranging from a few hundred dollars to more than $10,000. The bidding was competitive and entertaining, with bidders enjoying incredible bargains on valuable advertising opportunities. In all, the auction fetched more than $32,000.

In addition to being an exciting event, the Media Auction benefits a great cause. Proceeds help fund scholarships for local advertising and graphic design students, as well as help support AAF-Jacksonville initiatives throughout the year.

Membership has its perks, too. AAF-Jacksonville members got to enjoy an additional 10 minutes of bidding time at the end of the silent auction. 2010 ADDY Awards

Attaboy ADDYs!

ADDY attendees walked with a swagger of confidence through the doors of Bugsy’s Hideout, the hottest juke-joint in town the night of February 19.  The endless flow of giggle-water was enough to set the place on fire when it met the heat of the card tables. Yes, indeed, Bugsy’s was filled with guys and dolls dressed in their best rags, ready to start their speakeasy ADDY night.

The cool cats of the local advertising industry took in the scenery of their fellow advertiser’s  goods on display at Bugsy’s. When the time came, everyone crossed the alley to the historic Florida Theatre, where some received more than just an “attaboy” for their hard work. Silver, Gold and Best in Shows were awarded to the top dogs and were graciously announced from the screen of a new-aged talkie!

Marla Lucas, 4th District AAF Secretary, was the cat’s meow of the evening. A very humble and surprised Lucas was presented with the Silver Medal of achievement in the world of advertising. As a well-to-do dame,  she thanked her audience with grace,  and received a well-earned congratulations from the crowd! Attaboy Marla!

All-in-all, the hotsy-totsy affair will go down in history as the bee’s knees!

“HOW TO FASCINATE.”

Sally Hogshead, a Jacksonville native and award-winning copywriter, asks the question, “why do you vividly remember some brands and products, while most get filed into your mental spam filter?” The answer: fascination.

This question and more were answered at the AAF Jacksonville presents Sally Hogshead luncheon, held at Dave and Busters, February 25. A staggering number of advertising professionals and students from local universities were in attendance for inspiration and guidance to Fascinate in their own community.

Hogshead described the concept behind the her formulated F Score, as well as, enlightened the audience with the meaning and power behind their individual scores.  By the end of her speech, all in attendance were eager to read her new book, “Fascinate,” and learn more intriguing insight into the minds of consumers and advertisers alike.
